“People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don't find myself saying, "Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner." I don't try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.” (Carl Rogers)

Reasons to be Cheerful (Part Thirty)

Getting energy back after antibiotic slump for a week - wheeeee! Therefore, a different diet this week - a whisky diet. I've lost three days already. Goodness is it really 30 of these reasons to be cheerful! On the whole, as an experiment in positive psychology, I'd say that it really does work and I find that reminding myself of having done some things and experienced some things is indeed a positive action. It works for me.

I'm real pleased with Ashes and Diamonds for Ales Bialiatski - and also Blake's Jerusalem is learnt and works.

With the death of David Nobbs last week, I watched the first episode of Reggie Perrin, and found myself enjoying it immensely. With its surface of conventional suburban behaviour and the barely concealed wildness and terror below, it's a lovely reminder of how absurd it all is (although some of the 70s casual homophobia, racism, sexism are uneasy viewing). When it was originally on tellie, I don't suppose I properly followed the story arc, so it has been interesting to catch the narrative thread. All three series (seven episodes in each) are available in full on youtube - the first two are phenomenal, although the cult third one can be a bit too much at times.

Taking a really excellent, informative and engaging Mooc on health and wellbeing - blogged previous to this. My new knowledge is already having an impact on my approach to diet and exercise - smaller portions, Billy, smaller portions, pigs are great but no need to emulate...

MichaƂ's re-translation of Norwid for Ashes and Diamonds inspired me to watch Krapp's Last Tape about how we become different people as we move through life - enduring brilliance:
